vw industrial-rotary air compressor

A new toy was just delivered...
it's a VW powered industrial-rotary
air compressor from the early 1970's.

Kevin tells me that it was used to operate heavy duty
construction tools like jack hammers and impact tools
.

NATO forces, such as the German & Swiss armies,
used these compressors.

This machine has 63 original hours on it.

The hour meter and everything else still works perfectly.

I took a short video of the boys starting it for the first time.

Tropical storm, Fay, is on the way towards Florida, so maybe we'll get to use this baby for real very soon. Kevin purchased this because it is Volkswagen, but mainly because in the last 3 hurricanes, we have lost power for up to 2 weeks and although we have generators, they aren't enough to power the 3-phase, 230 volt, 10 hp air compressor that we rely on everyday. Now we can throw a couple gallons of gas in and have enough air to change a track off a tiger tank..ha ha!

there's just something special about bruce

I don't know how we were lucky enough to have this cat adopt us...

there's just something special about Bruce!

We've never had a cat like this before.

It doesn't matter what Kevin is doing...

Bruce wants to be right there.
He doesn't mind if he is sitting in fiberglass
or bondo dust
or grease...
he just wants to be there...

with his best friend, Kevin!
You're quite a cat Bruce!

hebmuller update

Yesterday just before I went home, Kevin asked me to come and take some pictures. When I asked what I was suppose to take pictures of, he told me that they were going to lift the Hebmuller body off of the chassis.

So they proceeded to lift it up and off...

and moved it over here.

Then, of course, they had to do a little inspection.

Who knows what they are looking for,
they just like to look now that they can.

So here is the chassis, which Kevin wasted no time in...

steamcleaning.

When the boys take stuff apart...they really take it apart!

computer hell

We have been having MAJOR computer problems all week...not fun! I have been spending all my time wrestling with the computer, trying to get it to work...not succeeding, but trying anyway. I can't stand to do anymore, so I am going to take the weekend off computer fixing. Kevin will have to try to get by with how it's working until we decide to buy a new one or the computer just decides the vacation is over and starts working again. So, photos are very limited this week.
Bill and Andy last Friday afternoon
taping off the G-99 tail, getting it ready for final paint.

Yea!!!!

Bruce approves!

Almost ready for the new graphics.

As of a few minutes ago,
the boys were all putting a couple hours into the Hebmuller.

Here's Bret making sparks again.

He gets to have all the fun!

We don't see Two Eyes very much anymore,
but she just came for an afternoon visit.

Have a nice weekend!!

gluing G-99 fender ducts

Just before lunch today, Kevin, Andy and Bill
were gluing the fender ducts into the G-99 tail.

It was fun to watch all the action with 3 guys
quickly working together on one tail.
A lot of finger action going on...
fingers are the best applicators.

To accomplish some things, you need teamwork!
Sometimes clekos won't do, so Andy is taping
to hold the parts together while the glue dries.

They were doing a pretty good job accomplishing this task
with all the gluing, taping, drilling, adjusting, and cleko-ing going on.

Bruce was watching from under the trailer.

Kevin is smearing epoxy cabosil, but he has to work fast
because you only have 10 minutes after it is mixed before it cures.

Now that's what I call togetherness!
Here's a very unprofessional video I just posted on youtube.
You'll have to excuse the chatter at the end...
I don't know how to edit my videos yet.

Andy is applying fiberglass patches with epoxy cabosil (tinted black).

She's getting there...

this and that

Today Bret has been hooking up the Motec sensors on the 962.

Motec GPS

shift light sensor

air temp. sensor

water temp. sensor

boost pressure sensor

He also had to weld a new bung on the 962 oil tank.

Andy is installing the rear deck lid pin receiver on the 904.

He is also working on the tail light harness.

Here it is almost assembled.

Kevin is working on the new fan shroud mold.

Another couple of layers of fiberglass.

Goopy, sticky business!

He actually showed me a blister he got on his hand
from all the paint brush work involved in patting the glass down.

Now, grinding the edges of the mold.

Bill is all suited up
ready to paint the body pieces of the G-99.

Just before going home last night,
Kevin pressure cleaned the Hebmuller.

This is the correct dash.

These little guys are so cute...I couldn't resist taking a picture of them.
They are windshield washer jets for the 906, 910, and 904.

Bruce says, "Where's my lizard?".
