the beginning of a new restoration
This 917 is our latest restoration project.
Kevin is starting with the front nose cover.
beginning weight...
7 pounds
Now the grinding begins
to uncover the secrets of this race car's history.
yellow...
green, blue, black, gray, etc. etc.
It's kind of like looking at the rings of a tree after you cut it down...
it's all history!
Significant find...a rondel stripe,
which would have surrounded the number.
The green tape is marking the shape of the yellow rondel stripe.
The order the colors were uncovered.
removing more old paint
a historic pile
ready to flip it over
removing the asbestos heat shield
ready for a little light media blasting
the asbestos heat shield
weight now...
3 pounds...
from 7 to 3...not bad!
To better visualize this process, you can watch our youtube videos.
