917 restoration - post #9 - sandblasting
Kevin has been busy grinding and sandblasting the 917 today.
He just turned it on its side to start on the bottom.
Our "hat of the day" is from Lee Giannone.
His favorite hat is the "
Early 911S Registry
"
Kevin has uncovered paint striping on the right fender
which proves that this area is part of the original car.
If you watch Part 10 of our 917 youtubes, Kevin will explain.
Here is a more detailed shot.
and it's back to sandblasting again...
and now more grinding...
Kevin is having some FUN today!

917 restoration - post #8 - grinding the left side roof & nose
The 917 is now in the paint booth,
ready for Kevin to get busy grinding again.
Our hat today is courtesy of Rick Wilson of
maisonblanche.co.uk
Rick is a long-time friend and a fantastic photographer!
Kevin explains it all in the youtube video linked at the bottom of this post.
grinding away to discover more historical evidence
Uncovering a seam which shows where a new nose was attached.
This seam is where the roof post meets the nose on the left side.
Many layers of paint...the history of this car are being documented.
The left front fender has also been patched.
Kevin has put the green tape on his section
to keep the original colors for a paint match later.
That's all for now...the latest youtube:
