vw industrial-rotary air compressor

A new toy was just delivered...
it's a VW powered industrial-rotary
air compressor from the early 1970's.

Kevin tells me that it was used to operate heavy duty
construction tools like jack hammers and impact tools
.

NATO forces, such as the German & Swiss armies,
used these compressors.

This machine has 63 original hours on it.

The hour meter and everything else still works perfectly.

I took a short video of the boys starting it for the first time.

Tropical storm, Fay, is on the way towards Florida, so maybe we'll get to use this baby for real very soon. Kevin purchased this because it is Volkswagen, but mainly because in the last 3 hurricanes, we have lost power for up to 2 weeks and although we have generators, they aren't enough to power the 3-phase, 230 volt, 10 hp air compressor that we rely on everyday. Now we can throw a couple gallons of gas in and have enough air to change a track off a tiger tank..ha ha!
